So, there is a lot of debate about piracy and there is a lot of it happening too, even among people who don’t realize of don’t think that their stealing anything. I’m not here to talk morals, it’s just that I recently found out that this one guy, George “GeoHot” Hotz, claims he unlocked the “root key” for the PS3. What that means is that he may have opened the door for PS3 owners the world over to pirate legitimate games.
Now, Microsoft has been dealing with this issue a lot longer than Sony has, and their sales haven’t seemed to take much of a hit (although it could mean that the Xbox 360s popularity may be more expansive than just the sales reports). It will be interesting to see how Sony (the Activitsion/THQ of console makers) will react to this if it really is a legitimate claim.
