Through the last five years of the current generation we’ve heard a lot from Microsoft and Sony about a ten year life cycle from the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and it seems like that direction hasn’t changed. In a recent interview Stephen McGill, Microsoft’s U.K. Boss, has said that “this generation is here for a long, long time.” He went on in the interview to talk about Kenect and all of the things that core gamers can expect, which sounded more like he was trying to say core games like games too!

I have to agree that I’m not on the edge of my seat for a new console, and with the Kenect coming out and the updated Xbox 360 console out this year and even PlayStation 3′s Move, my need for something new may have just been sated for the time being. The future is pretty uncertain though since we don’t know how game designers or gamers are reacting to the motion control technologies coming out which means that Sony and Microsoft may be changing their tune about the life of their consoles. I still fall back on my previous articles in the April and July 2010 issues of the ezine where I said that I think that the Kinect is the future of gaming and the Move is merely the next step.
