Now, I have to admit that I’ve just about given up on the PlayStation and when I hear news about the PlayStation Network or PSP I’m even more apt to ignore it completely. When I heard about Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy I had to take some amount of notice. I was disappointed again though when I found out that it was a fighting game only available on the PSP. I can just see the meeting at Square Enix now:
Executive 1: “We should release an obscure Final Fantasy fighting game and call it something really weird.”
Executive 2: “I love it! We should also release it only on the PSP to make sure that only a few people buy the game. That way we don’t make a profit.”
Executive 1: “Done!” -Executive 1 picks up the phone and starts Square Enix’ development on Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy.-
All joking aside, I would love to play this game because for the most part I’m a Final Fantasy fan. But I’ll never own a PSP (unless we start actually making money from this site and I start expanding reviews to the PSP) because I don’t want to buy a hand held console for one or two titles, and I would have to say that the PSP is in the twilight of it’s life. So why Square Enix would make the choice to release this game only on the PSP is beyond me, but I guess they think they’ll make some money (which they probably will). To give respect where it’s due though, the PSP single handedly saved the PSN which anyone whose seen the amount of PSP titles available in the PSN can attest. Anyway, let’s hope that Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy is actually a good game and they think about releasing it for the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
